Family FAQ

You Asked:

My daughter has a pretty long summer reading list. What's the best way to research the books and authors online?

The Online Family Answers:

First check with your local library -- many have robust web sites these days. You can probably search your library's catalog online to find out general details about the book and whether it's on the shelf. Some libraries even let you reserve a copy. Next, you can try Internet booksellers' sites, which have become far more than online shops. Sites such as Amazon, Powells or Borders often feature author profiles, book reviews, reader discussion questions, or even links to authors' personal blogs. You can also do a general online search for living authors' names to see if they have their own web sites. Your daughter could find out what inspired the authors to write their books or read articles about them. She probably can also find online biographies for most of the authors on her list -- just tell her to make sure to check the source to make sure the information is up-to-date and accurate.
