Family FAQ

You Asked:

Is it OK to blog about my kids? Will it put them in danger?

The Online Family Answers:

One of the most popular blog categories on the web right now is parenting. Mommy blogs, for instance, get a lot of traffic and some bloggers have even become media stars of a sort. Still there has been debate at conferences like BlogHer about whether it's a good idea to expose the life and times of your children on the Net. An especially hot topic is when parents post video and pictures of their kids.

Many of these sites are really endearing and funny. But to play it safe, don't post any personally identifiable information about you or your kids. Also make sure your web site domain name registration, for example, doesn't include your name and address. Here are some other things to think about: If your kids are teens, ask them how they feel about being included in a blog. If your kids are toddlers or in elementary school, consider how they'd feel about you sharing their most embarrassing moments across the entire Internet. On the other hand, many parent bloggers feel that they are creating the most thorough, heartfelt baby book and journal for their kids by blogging about them.
